My children attend St. James CDC downtown. We've been so happy
with them. While you won't find bells and whistles like Mandarin immersion,
Montessori methods, or organic food, most teachers have very long tenure. The infant
teachers who helped my daughter were the same ones my son had three years later.
They are very low key and focus on loving each child as an individual. They're not
cheap, but are less than Children's Garden or Kindercare close by. For nursing moms
working downtown, it's great to come nurse the baby at lunch.

I just wanted to share some information about Creative Children's Center in
Beaverton. My son has been going there since he turned 2 and we love the
school. CCC is Oregon's largest parent-child cooperative preschool and
Kindergarten. Their constructivist approach creates an environment where
children are valued and respected and seen as active & independent
learners. I love being a part of my son's school experience and my husband
actually parent helps once a month, so he gets to have his own special time
with my son at school. It's been fantastic seeing my son become an
independent child. He loves school and wants to go everyday!

Hawthorne Family Playschool is a play-based mixed-age (3-5) cooperative preschool in
the Hawthorne District of SE Portland. I love the emphasis on natural materials,
fresh air and the environment, and the respect we show for our children both as
individuals and as members of their class. I encourage you to visit HFP at our Open
House on February 20th (10am to 1pm) and meet Susan Eisman, our teacher, and our
community of deeply involved parents.

Fruit & Flower is a wonderful, warm, engaging, happy place that allows me to be a
better mom and a productive part of the working world. The teachers clearly love the
children and that means the world to me. My daughter blossoms daily and runs into
her room to start her day of fun, reading, activity and learning. I would recommend
F&F above all other centers in the Portland area. Added bonus...they provide all the
food throughout the day (included in the monthly fee), which is not only healthy,
but nutritious and has great variety. She eats things at F&F that she would never
eat at home!

Fruit and Flower is an excellent child care center. When we moved to Portland
everyone we asked recommended this as the best in town. They were not wrong. My
children have been nurtured and cared for by the best early childhood teachers and
staff. One can tell the long tradition for excellence of this center, in existence
since 1906. Fantastic children:caregiver ratios at all age levels (age 6 weeks - 5
years), long-tenured teachers, play-based learning, music, spanish...all included in
the monthly rate without extra fees! Diversity and culture are embraced in the Fruit
and Flower community. I cannot say enough good things. I highly recommend this
wonderful place to parents living or moving to Oregon.

~Cedar Hills Coop has been an amazing experience for my family. My 2 children
attended the 3s, 4s, and Kindergarten program. The play based curriculum focuses on
social development and problem solving skills. My children learned to "use their
words" and find solutions to problems. They were well prepared for elementary
school. It was an unforgettable experience that went by too quickly! I highly
recommend the school.
