~Marny Lawson from Women's Health Center of Oregon delivered my granddaughter 8 months ago. This was a first child for my daughter and she was very afraid. Marny has such a quiet calming voice and such a gentleness about her that was so comforting to my daughter. We appreciate her kindness and outstanding abilities as a Certified Nurse Midwife. ~I had my first child in a hospital with a doctor, and it was an awful experience. My second child--now 4 years old--was born in a hospital with a nurse midwife. I had a completely natural birth that was hampered by a hospital atmosphere. After many phones calls and research, I visited Alma Midwifery. Laura Erickson, the founder of Alma Midwifery, is truly an amazing person! Laura has more than 20 years experience as a midwife (she also was the clinical director and supervising midwife at Birthingway College of Midwifery), and she is so down-to-earth and compassionate. You have a choice of a home-birth or a birth in one of the beautiful, yet homey rooms in the birth center which is a renovated old Victorian style house in a wonderful part of southeast Portland. Each prenatal appointment is very laid-back and comfortable, yet very knowledgable. I had 3 midwives throughout my pregnancy, and all 3 were present at my delivery. The best part during labor was the big tub, and they were willing to do a water birth if I wanted. I delivered my son on the bed with my husband, mother (used to be a midwife), and 2 children present. It was an amazing birth--totally noninvasive and supportive of our wishes and needs. One thing about Laura--she knows her limitations. They are less than 5 minutes from a major hospital and ready to transport if necessary. I was ready to go home just 5 hours after giving birth to my almost 10 pound baby! I really recommend Alma Midwifery.
Anne, Tualatin Mom to 3 (11, 4, 4 mos)

~The last ten months of care through Alma Midwifery have made me realize how
great health care can be.  The wonderful midwives at Alma combine
outstanding professionalism and knowledge with respect and insight about the
birth process.  The birth center is a beautiful and comforting place that
offers prenatal and postpartum care, gorgeous birthing rooms, prenatal yoga,
parenting meetings, and even a weekly moms' group.

At 39 weeks my midwife suspected that my baby was breech and went with me to
have an ultrasound done.  Her suspicions were confirmed and she tried
immediate intervention with the external version procedure.   When this was
not successful she referred me to a chiropractor to see if adjustment might
help.  Since my baby was still determined to come out feet first, my wise
midwife suggested a Cesarean Birth for my and my baby's safety.  I felt well
cared for and respected my midwife's recommendation on this point.  She
scheduled me a meeting with an OB she was familiar with... and even came to
the birth.  Thanks to my fabulous midwife I had an ecstatic Cesarean Birth,
with my midwife talking me through the procedure as if I was having a
vaginal birth.  It was the most beautiful and perfect experience that
brought my beautiful baby boy into this world beyond the womb.

Additionally, the postpartum support has been wonderful.  My husband, baby
and I have all looked forward to our visits like visits with old friends...
After trying a traditional pediatrician, I have really come to appreciate
how much all the midwives at Alma love and care for babies!

~We had the most amazing experience at Andaluz! The providers are incredible. I recommend them to everyone, as the experience of giving birth with these amazing women changed my life.

~
I gave birth to my first son at St. Vincent's. While it was a good hospital, I was disappointed at all the "intervening" you get at hospitals.  I couldn't eat, drink (other than ice chips) etc..  No one would leave me alone!  And very sad when it was time to push, I found out that I wouldn't have my doctor cause she wasn't "on call"!  My second son, I decided to go to Andaluz!  I WAS HOOKED!  My appts. were about an hour long, not rushed at all!  You walk in, they give you water or tea while you wait, you're sitting on a comfy couch with a play area.  Kids have a small play area to play too! I loved it sooo much, I had my 3rd there too.  I would NEVER go back to a hospital for a normal birth.
My kids were involved with the birth, I could have as many or as few people in the room with me.  Everything was up to ME, NOT an OB.  The midwives are WAY nice.  I even was given a massage one day when my feet were hurting.  They go out of their way to make you comfy and happy! Two Thumbs up for Andaluz Waterbirth Center.
Summer, Vancouver Mom of 3 (ages 7, 4, 2)

~Andaluz is a phenomenal place for prenatal care, delivery, postpartum care, and well woman check ups throughout the year.

~We have had both of our children with the Andaluz midwives, and they are fantastic!  The birthing rooms are wonderful and the care that the midwives provide is excellent.

My baby was born by candelight and caught by my own husband's hands.  It was a precious moment that I will carry with me forever.  I've never felt safer or happier.        HulaChicken

~
I have had two HORRIBLE hospital births, in separate hospitals in separate states.
I have had THREE beautiful, uncomplicated and inspiring waterbirths at Andaluz
Waterbirth Center.  There are not enough words to describe how thankful I am to have
found them. I moved a thousand miles back to Oregon, just to have my last baby at
Andaluz again.  Their midwives are the most wonderful people!  I love them and thank
God for them.  Hannah, Beaverton Mom of 5.

~
~I had sadly an obligated C-section for my first child and it seemed that I was
condemned to end in C-sections the rest of my pregnancies but then I found Andaluz
and gave birth my second child in a birth tub in the most beautiful and naturally
way... it was the best experience ever!!... EVERYBODY at Andaluz are AWESOME and
they helped me experience the real, natural, safe, wonderful and beautiful sense of
giving birth... I'll be forever thankful for finding them!

~I love my midwife and team that was with me during pregnancy and delivery.  Love the staff, and my husband has now started seeing a doctor there as well.     Dawn, Beaverton mother of 1

~I had both my sons with the doctor/midwife team and they were awesome with both
deliveries. You cannot ask for better care or more personal attention and really
caring considerate staff. They do everything they can to make your birth exactly
what you envision it to be and to support you in any way possible to get what
you want.

~I used Mother Tree for both my births and they were amazing--so supportive, from my first assistance at the office, to my doula support with Jesse, to Jennifer's acupuncture to Kelley's massage. I felt completely taken care of. I think next time I'd even consider a home birth with Hope--as I've heard great things about her too.

~I had the most lovely experience with Wendy at Vivante.  The caring attention,
taking so much time at each visit to answer any questions, and she took the time to
really get to know my family.  All her wonderful care made it a very personal,
intimate journey.  I couldn't imagine going anywhere else.  Wendy and assistant came
to our home to deliver our baby girl, safely and perfectly.  They provided not only
great support to me, but to my husband, as well.  Post partum visits were at my
home!!  Talk about wonderful.  Lucy's Mom. Portland Mom to 22 month old.
