The Fourth of July in Brownsville is all you would imagine a summer holiday in rural America to be. Morning begins with a pancake breakfast at the park pavilion. Many residents spend the entire day in the park, playing ball or competing in the horseshoe pitching contest. As evening approaches, the old ball field fills with residents and guest, friends from out of town, school chums who haven't been seen all summer. The volunteer fireman pass out ice cream to the youngsters.
